Lesson PurposeStudents will practice active listening skills and participate in small group and whole class discussion of a speech and the transcript of that speech. These listening and speaking skills are necessary for success in most jobs.

Lesson ObjectivesAt the end of this lesson, students will be able to listen to select the most important parts from a speech and participate effectively in a discussion of the implications of the speaker’s main points. Students will select the most important points in the speech, read the speech with a small group, create two discussion questions, discuss their questions with their small groups, and then discuss teacher and student-generated questions in whole class Socratic seminar. |
